An AI agent in Discord that works per person
Discord works differently from Ara's other chats. There is no shared team room to pair. Ara answers each person who linked Discord to an Ara account, in that person's own workspace. In a server channel you @mention it and your apps and memory stay out of it. In a direct message it can use the apps you connected.
How it connects: A native bot, run by us. Anyone with Manage Server can add it, and each person signs in with Discord once to link their account. It does not go through Composio.
What Ara does with Discord
Ask in a channel
You say: @Ara what changed in [library]'s latest release, and does it break this code? [code]
Ara looks it up and works through it on its own machine, then answers in the channel. It works from the message that mentions it, so put the code in that message. Bots and webhooks can't call it.
Draft the thing nobody wants to write
You say: @Ara write release notes for people who don't read code, from these points: [points]
You get the draft in the channel, in parts if it is long, for everyone there to fix. If it made a file, it posts a link.
Use your own apps in a direct message
You say: Which of tomorrow's meetings are with people outside the company?
A direct message runs as you, in your workspace, with the apps you connected on your own account. Your server's channels never see those apps.
Keep a standing report in your messages
You say: Every Friday at 5, send me what I still owe people this week.
If you are an admin of your workspace, a schedule you make in the direct message reports back to it. It can't be made from a server channel.
What a reply looks like
Request: @Ara is the fix in [release] safe for our version?
Reply: Short answer: [yes or no], because [reason from the release notes]. Check [setting] before you upgrade. Source: [link], read [date].
Setup
- Someone with Manage Server adds Ara from the invite link in the dashboard. There is no code to pair.
- Each person who wants answers makes a free Ara account, then connects Discord under Settings, then Messengers. That opens Discord's own sign-in.
- In a channel, @mention Ara from the list. It answers only when mentioned there.
Runs without asking
- Answering a linked person who mentions it in a channel. Apps and memory are not used there, so nothing in your apps changes.
- Telling someone with no linked account how to sign up.
What waits for a person
- In a server channel there is nothing to approve, because your apps aren't used there.
- Adding Ara to a server needs Manage Server, and linking needs each person's own Discord sign-in.
Limits
- A person with no linked account gets no answer, only a note on how to sign up, at most once an hour.
- A long answer arrives in parts of at most 2,000 characters.
- A server channel has no shared team memory: each answer comes from the asker's own workspace with their memory left out.
When Ara is not the right fit for Discord
- You need a moderation bot. The invite asks to read and post in channels and threads only, with no permission to ban, kick or delete.
- You want a helper that answers everyone in a public community. Ara answers only people who have linked an account.
- You want a whole team sharing one memory and one set of apps from a Discord channel. Use Slack or a Telegram group for that.
How this chat works with Ara
- Ara reads the words of a message. Photos, files and voice notes sent here are not read, so attach those in the dashboard or in Slack. Files it makes come back as links.
- A linked direct chat runs as you and can use the apps you connected. With no rule on an app, reads and changes there run without stopping.
- If an app is set to "Asks a person first", Ara says in the chat that it needs a sign-off and carries on after approval. The decision is made in the dashboard: there is no approve button in the chat.
- It is one shared bot. You can't give it your own name, picture or code.
- Only a workspace admin can create a schedule, and not from a group chat.
Questions
- Why does everyone have to link an account?
- Ara answers each person in that person's default workspace, and that workspace's credits pay for it. There is no shared team room to pair on Discord.
- Can Ara read my server's private channels?
- Only channels the bot was given access to. It answers when mentioned, and it leaves your apps and memory out of server channels.
What it costs
Free to start with 20 credits and no card. 1 credit per completed run plus external data lookups; failed runs cost nothing. Business is quoted. A scheduled run and a first look use credits like any other completed run, even on a quiet day when you hear nothing.
How we checked this
Read from Ara's own code and the live site on 2026-11-04. Example jobs show what the tools and instructions allow, and an AI model can still get things wrong. If something here is out of date, tell us
Other integrations
Hand Ara the job you keep putting off.
Bring your team's first AI employee into the chat you already use and give it one job. It comes back finished. Free to start, no card.
